Grant Description

The First and Last Mile Improvements Activity focuses on improving connectivity in the Target Area through the planning, design, prioritization, and construction of small-scale infrastructure such as crosswalks, pedestrian pathways, overpasses, bicycle lanes, and pick-up/drop-off points for unregulated minibus taxis ("matatus").

This activity includes two sub-activities: (i) Connectivity Infrastructure Prioritization and Implementation Planning, where the Roads Directorate of Nairobi City County Government reviews existing plans for non-motorized transport, identifies and prioritizes construction or rehabilitation projects (e.g., sidewalks, crosswalks), and ensures they align with the connectivity goals.

A screening and prioritization process will be agreed upon, and the Directorate will prepare designs, consult the public, and then begin construction or rehabilitation.

The Directorate will also refine project selection criteria, develop a formal review process, assess infrastructure proposed in Station Area Connectivity Plans, and prepare designs following stakeholder consultations.
