Grant Description
On May 5, 2017, Wei Jinghua, the Chinese ambassador to Azerbaijan, and Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Sharifov, signed an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement (ETCA) for unspecified development in non-energy fields including agriculture and transport.
The signing ceremony was also attended by Wang Chungang, a representative for the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Transport, and the Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Embassy.
On September 21, 2017, Chinese Ambassador Wei Jinghua attended the handover ceremony of technical equipment provided by the Chinese government to the Azerbaijan government.
Under this ETCA, china provided 11 million USD worth of supplies to Baku Middle School 23 and Azerbaijan National Agricultural University. It is unclear if any additional projects were funded under the ETCA.
This project represents a part of China's "Belt and Road" initiative to invest in the infrastructure development of countries in Asia, Africa, and Europe.
