MCC Water Management and Irrigation Activity

Burkina Faso - Agriculture Project - Water Management and Irrigation Activity: The Activity is designed to ensure adequate water availability, water delivery, flood control, and dam safety to support and protect investments in the Sourou Valley and Comoe Basin.

Specifically, MCC Funding will support: (i) preparation and implementation of Integrated Water Resources Management ("IWRM") plans for the Sourou Valley and Comoe Basin in conformity with Burkina Faso's integrated water resources management action plan (Plan d'Action de la Gestion Integree des Resources en Eau du Burkina Faso) ("PAGIRE"); (ii) rehabilitation of the Lery dam and associated infrastructure (the "Lery Dam"); (iii) development of the Di irrigation scheme in the Sourou Valley; (iv) development of EIAs, EMPs, and RAPs for the respective investments and implementation of mitigation measures as identified in these assessments, or as otherwise may be appropriate, to include compensation for physical and economic displacement of individuals, residences and businesses affected by such rehabilitation and construction, consistent with OP 4.12; and (v) provision of capacity building and technical assistance to establish the institutional framework and financial capacity for sustainable operation and maintenance of the water and irrigation infrastructure, including, but not limited to, capacity building and technical assistance to the Autorite de Mise en Valeur de la Vallee du Sourou ("AMVS") consistent with the recommendations of the AMVS Management Audit.
