USPTO Global Intellectual Property Academy (GIPA) conducted a training workshop to give participants an understanding of the international concept of geographical indications (GIs), as set forth in WTO (TRIPs) which provided an overview of WTO jurisprudence on GIs, facilitate an understanding of the various GI proposals being discussed at the WTO and potential implementation considerations, as well as provide information on international protection mechanisms for GIs with focus on the protection system available within the United States.
