Grant Description

To enable the revival of Somali-speaking theater (oral literature, poetry, and drama) which is quickly disappearing due to the absence of written records. Before the civil war, hundreds of theater troupes performed throughout the country every night.

The project will collect and preserve existing recordings, as well as record and transcribe oral histories from aging artists.
