Grant Description

To support the preservation of traditional music through the creation of a Surinamese music education curriculum which includes influences from Africa, Indonesia, Hindustani, Chinese, and Amerindian populations.

Suriname's national Public Music School is a venerable institution with a long history of producing good musicians but the current curriculum does not address the multi-ethnic society. Tbe project will bring on specialists in various types of music to train teachers.
