Grant Description

To support the documentation of the 17th-century Dutch Fort in Batticaloa, the administrative capital of the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lankan Civil War (1983-2009) impeded conservation efforts at the fort, which is threatened by sea erosion and encroaching development.

The project includes the preparation of a master plan, measured architectural drawings of the major structures, and photographic survey of the site in preparation for its eventual restoration.
