Grant Description

Humber Zero plans to decarbonise the world-scale industrial complex at Immingham, representing approximately 8MTPA of CO2 emissions by the late 2020's, via a combination of technology pathways.

The official decarbonisation roadmap being developed for the Humber envisages that Immingham will become a carbon capture and hydrogen hub, providing cost-effective decarbonised energy supply and storage opportunities to both industry and the National Grid. Consistent with this assessment, Humber Zero will provide a platform for demonstrating critical deep decarbonisation technologies on an industrial and commercial scale.

Backed by VPI, Phillips 66 and Uniper, Humber Zero will materially decarbonise the industrial cluster, protecting and expanding highly skilled regional jobs in low carbon infrastructure development. The scope of the project will cover retrofitting post combustion capture plant to: * Two existing gas turbines and auxiliary boilers at VPI's Immingham Combined Heat and Power plant

* One major process unit (Fluid Catalytic Cracker) at the Phillips 66 Humber Refinery

The study will build on the feasibility work already carried out, with the next phase developing the engineering, cost estimation and business case modelling to an investment decision point. Humber Zero's ISCF proposal is well-positioned to deliver unique benefits:

* A materially sized deployment project delivering 3.8 MTPA (core proposal) of CO2 captured and stored from within the Immingham industrial complex * Strategically positioned next to planned CO2 T&S infrastructure to the Endurance saline aquifer

* Immediate adjacent to existing Uniper infrastructure, connecting to the existing offshore pipelines and depleted Viking gas reservoirs operated by Chrysaor . * Provision of zero carbon baseload power to Phillips 66 as well as system operability services to National Grid * Provision of zero carbon heat and power to neighbouring industry and beyond

* Underpin Phillips 66 "Refinery of the Future", as Europe's only producer of battery grade coke, a key component in the electric vehicle supply chain

* Expected to be a least cost pathway to meaningful decarbonisation of Humber's heavy industry, supported by retrofit of existing, flexible CHP generation * Adjacent to the deep-water Port of Immingham offering export/import of CO2 volumes and low carbon products

* World scale investment partners with operating and project experience to deliver a FOAK (First Of A Kind) deployment project and industry match funding

Humber Zero will act as the launch pad to deliver T&S infrastructure to other large-scale decarbonisation opportunities in the region.
