Grant Description

The NIHR CV HIC combines routine clinical data from 11 NHS Trusts to facilitate equitable re-use of longitudinal and highly detailed patient level data for translational research.

The current structure allows large scale observational research, and several hypotheses have been tested using a retrospective cohort study design.

This proposal involves further development of the architecture to expand the dataset, to integrate the higher detailed secondary care data we collate with nationally collected primary care data and to develop the CV HIC spine of routine collected clinically data as a tool to provide follow up data for randomised clinical trials.

I will use the expanded dataset to refine the echocardiographic assessment of LV systolic function in patients with heart failure and use trial emulation methodology to evaluate potentially prognostic drug therapy in groups of patients with LVEF>40% stratified by different echocardiographic measurements.
