People with type 2 diabetes (T2D) are at high risk of developing Heart Failure (HF), particularly with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF).
Identification of early diabetic cardiomyopathy is vitally important and may permit earlier intervention for those most at risk of developing HF. Abnormal calcium handling has been implicated in the development of diabetic cardiomyopathy.
Using Manganese enhanced MRI (MEMRI), a surrogate marker of myocardial calcium handling, we will assess 100 participants (60 asymptomatic people with T2D, 20 with T2D and HFpEF and 20 healthy volunteers) and test-retest reproducibility in 20 subjects. Forty younger asymptomatic adults with T2D (
