Salinity Gradient Power (SGP), which is so-called Blue Energy is completely clean, environmental friendly, can be exploited continuously 24h per day and 365 days a year. The extractable energy from SGP in the world is 2 TW which is equivalent to 2000 nuclear reactors. Blue Energy is one of the biggest but hardly explored energy sources in Sweden.
Reverse Electrodialysis (RED) is an advanced technology for harvesting SGP that is utilized in a large scale in several countries such as Italy and the Netherland.
In this project, we are going to detect hotspots for producing Blue Energy in Sweden, harvest Blue Energy from natural and artificial resources in a lab-scale, adapt the RED system based on Swedish water resources, and assess the potential of Blue Energy as an alternative renewable energy source for producing 50 kW of energy.
