Sweden has set a very demanding target to be emission neutral by 2045. To achieve this goal substantial changes must be done in many areas including for example energy production, industrial processes or mining. The construction industry alone is responsible for a very high carbon dioxide emission partly due to Portland cement, which production in Sweden alone reaches nearly 3 million tones.
Additionally natural raw materials such as natural fillers, sand and aggregates are used in large quantities while their availability in Sweden is increasingly limited.
The aim of this PhD project is to develop a technology enabling to transform process residues from mining, steel industry and construction into high-end ecological building products. The project combines basic research with application-oriented materials/process development. It will be undertaken in a very close cooperation with construction, mining, and steel industries.
