Flicker, more precise temporal light modulation (TLM), has with the introduction of LED-based lighting technology reemerge as a problem. TLM has a negative effect on human health causing annoyance, headaches, eyestrain and migraine. The negative consequences of TLM create an obstacle to broad and rapid adaptation of the new LED-technology, and by so an obstacle to potential energy savings.
In September 2021, the EU's new eco-design regulations enters into force. This includes, for the first time, new standards for measuring, as well as recommended limit values for TLM. This creates an urgent need to spread awareness of TLM, and for more people to be able to measure quickly, easily and correctly. However, the standards that describe the measures are technically complicated, and are not aimed at industry professionals.
The project aims to write a guide for the industry, as well as an interpretation of the standards including a “how to” build a simple measurement setup from scratch.
