Starting from a passenger ferry and its operating profile, a fully electric drivetrain and battery pack will be dimensioned in terms of power requirements as well as weight and volume of the subparts.
This is carried out for electric motors with varying strengths of the magnets, an inverter unit and for batteries of different chemistries and geometries.
Furthermore, detailed drivetrain losses are modeled, and the energy consumption is calculated and connected to the charging requirements. Technical results are then linked to a life cycle assessment model.
For the environmental assessment part, the data inventory analysis for the electric drivetrain and operation, including charging, will be in focus.
Additionally, remaining parts of the vessel are modelled overviewingly, and all parts are compiled into an environmental impact assessment, including results for global warming, local emissions and resource consumption, for the entire vessel but with a focus on the propulsion system.
