KON 2022 GPL2 solar panels on street lighting

The GPL2 project is a concept development project for solar panels on lighting poles.

The project focus is to break new ground and establish a new branch of solar energy alongside field-solar-electricity and roof-solar-electricity by technically showing solutions for good efficiency on lighting cables and solutions for cost-effective, approved solar panel surfaces on lighting poles.

The business advantage for this is to be able to share space, cabling and connection with lighting where it then does not have to compete with existing solar energy alternatives.

The climate advantage for this is that the entire area is unused and globally a gigantic opportunity to contribute with new green solar electricity in the fossil conversion and be able to make street lighting CO2 compensating.

In Sweden there are 2.5 million streetlights and additional place-lights, which is the possible market, but this is not country-limited, the target is to reach Europe’s 56 million streetlights and beyond.
