A new concept for pyrolysis of lignocellulosic materials has been developed. Some basic conditions need to be verified in laboratory tests. The overall objetive is to increase the product value in a process that is not too demanding in technology. The method is based on the following principles:
1. A particularly energy-efficient method for drying (absorption drying) of the raw material is applied with the aim of achieving a high total energy utilization.
2. The pyrolysis is carried out in 2 steps with the aim of improving the quality of the bio-oil and increasing the yield of carbon.
3. The heat supply during the pyrolysis takes place indirectly, which gives a product gas with a low nitrogen content. The calorific value of the gas is intended to be controlled to higher values at the expense of the carbon exchange. The gas has a high content of hydrogen, which could be a future by-product.
4. The temperature in the process can be controlled better than today.
