Ecosystem responses to dam removal in inland freshwaters

The project will take advantage of planned dam removals to carry out a large-scale replicated experiment to quantify the effects.

Specifically nutrient status, biomass of phyto- and zooplankton, aquatic plants, crayfish and fish, mercury levels in predatory fish, and interactions between different parts of the food web will be studied.

The studies will produce novel knowledge about ecosystem processes in regulated inland waters, knowledge that is largely lacking today.
