The viability of a fully renewable energy system depends on long- and short term climate fluctuations that can cause energy droughts and rapidly changing availability of energy sources.
These problems require sufficient electric transmission capacity to coordinate production between regions and energy storage in hydropower.
The climaterelated and environmental connections between energy sources calls for an intertwined view on the role of hydropower for the renewable energy system.
This project aims to use historical hydro-climatic data to analyse how the hydropower storage capacity can be best utilized with account taken to climate fluctuations and other technical solutiosn for electric transmission and selected energy mix in an international perspective.
The project aims at implementing forecast approaches, environmenta constraints and economic incentives in models of the energy system to study the degree of optimality between solutions.
