Reuse of batteries for circular use in energy storages

Batteries from electric scooters are replaced to keep the vehicle up to date, no matter if the batteries have reached end of life or not. Perfectly usable batteries are recycled sooner than necessary. These batteries could get a second life, where the quality requirements on each battery are lower.

This project will include a pre-study and initial tests of reused batteries from electric scooters for usage in an energy storage system. To enable the usage of batteries with different capacity in the same system, a special technology is needed. The initial technology development will be done within this innovation project.

The systems will work where the power grid is not available, e.g. in rural Africa or on Swedish islands without a power grid. It will also be useful for peak shaving in the Swedish power grid, at charging stations for electric vehicles, and for mobile charging stations. The system is modular to facilitate service and maintenance, this provides longevity of the system.
