The unique tidal and ocean current power plant, Deep Green, has been demonstrated in the Faroe Islands (DG100) and Wales (DGU). The functionality of the powerplant is verified and the commercial potential confirmed.
Analysing these results the Tether (anchoring system) is identified as a critical area of improvement to further utilise the potential of the technology and reach a commercial breakthrough.
The Tether includes the power cable for electricity distribution, counterforce to the lift force of the wing, communication, connectors, and hydrodynamic fairings.
The technology needs to operate a unique combination of function and performance such as dynamic forces in rotation cycles, electricity transmission with low losses, digital communication and neutral buoyancy in an energy efficient hydrodynamic profile.
The project “Deep Green Tether” includes development, construction and verification in production environment of a new Tether design for two complete DG100 models and one DGU.
