This project aims to develop a new type of wind turbine roller bearing with a lightweight structure through additive manufacturing. This is to reduce the weight of the rollers in the bearings and thus reduce the overall weight of the machine housing. Different Vibenite® materials will be evaluated and different geometries will be manufactured by VBN Components.
These will then be evaluated and tested to create an optimized product.
Vibenite® is an extremely abrasion resistant and high purity material, which is very important for this type of roller bearing.
By increasing wear resistance and saving material due to reduced sizing of the product, a roller bearing with reduced weight can be developed, thus increasing efficiency and lifetime, reducing loads, CO2 emissions and resource consumption and maintenance.
