Grant Description

This implementation project investigates the possibility of developing technology for mixing recycled material with new raw material in the production of carbon fibers. A recycled carbon fiber is short and has lower performance than new raw material fiber. To maintain the material value, new fibers can be combined with recycled.

A disadvantage of this material combination is that the manufacturing requires a high proportion of manual work.

The company Fureho AB has a new technology -the Noobing technology- where fibers are laid mechanically in three directions, that can contribute with a solution to the hybridization problem as the technology has demonstrated the possibility of combining different fiber materials and preparing for inserts of different kinds.

In the long term, the project is expected to form a basis for identifying the technological development and the research questions that need to be answered in order to generate preforms of new / recycled fiber.

This can lead to the establishment of a viable way of recovering recycled fibers in new structural components and thus generating a more circular use of composites.
