We want to change how lighting assets are managed in public libraries, from thinking about management to operation and then to optimization. Disruptive technical developments (incl., LEDs) have already shown a high level of performance. The next challenge is to manage integrative lighting assets more efficiently, given the increasing requirements and complexity resulting from combining the visual, biological and emotional benefits of light.
Current lighting asset management practice still features corrective maintenance, or, in other words, “fix it only if it breaks”. However, most visual effects (incl., intensity) and non-visual effects (incl. flicker) lack monitoring or prediction because of low levels of asset management. We argue for the need to change from corrective to predictive maintenance.
To this end, we propose to develop a novel integrative lighting asset management strategy, framework, approaches and models for public libraries using Digital Twin technology.
