Altris’ vision is to contribute to the energy and climate transition by commercialising the cathode material Fennac for use in sustainable and safe sodium-ion batteries. Fennac-based batteries are free from critical elements such as lithium, cobalt, phosphorus and graphite and all raw materials can be manufactured within Europe.
Today, the production of Fennac uses a precursor and the cost of it is a substantial part of the total production cost. This leads to a high sales price and that Fennac primarily can be sold as a niche product where safety and sustainability are critical aspects. However, during the production, a by-product is also formed and the aim for this project is to recycle this by-product into the precursor that is used for Fennac production.
By doing so, the production costs can be lowered enough to enable Fennac batteries to compete on a large scale with lithium-ion batteries for stationary storage, e.g. connected to solar panels or to wind power plants
