Our product MeSiON is a hard and abrasion-resistant transparent coating that can be manufactured at high temperatures (300 - 400 ° C) on glass. However, there is an unresolved need for low-temperature production of MeSiON with retained properties.
Established solutions at 100 - 150 ° C are not nearly as hard and scratch-resistant as our proposed process would allow. We will use ionized coating processes, which supply energy through ions instead of heating.
Then, the corresponding properties as with high-temperature coating can be achieved and have great potential for energy savings.
When coating at much lower temperatures, three objectives can therefore be achieved: temperature-sensitive substrates such as plastics and foils can be coated, the process can be made far more energy-efficient (estimated energy saving 30-50% over a process cycle) since both heating and cooling cycles are much faster and consume less power, and productivity increases to a corresponding degree.
