In order to achieve net-zero targets, it is critical to implement technologies modernising and decarbonising energy-intensive industries.
Industrial heat generation s is responsible for 10% of the global GHG emissions. Key sectors such as steel, ceramics and glass production mainly rely on combusting fossil gases to deliver the high-temperature heat needed for those applications (>1500ºC). Biomass combustion is seen as a green alternative but is not able to deliver the proper heat requirements.
Meva Energy has developed a novel gasification technology able to produce renewable syngas from biomass feedstock that is compliant with the quality and temperature requirements for heat generation in industrial processes up to 1400ºC. This study will assess how the technology can be adapted for a new biomass gasification process to decarbonise heat generation in industrial applications requiring up to 3000ºC, opening up an untapped market segment that equals 47 Mt/CO2eq/year.
