Electrification of transportation and electricity production is necessary to reach current climate goals. The expected increase in electricity demand due to this will likely require investments in grid infrastructure. How large these investments are is unknown, but estimates suggest that around 200 billion EURO is needed until 2030.
Endre, a startup from Chalmers, have developed a method to accurately forecast future electric vehicle demand at an hourly resolution in very small areas (500x500m).
The project will integrate these forecasts, together with forecasts on vehicle charging locations and real estate developments to develop an MVP. The MVP will be tested together with 5 grid operators in Sweden. The collaboration aims to collect data on functionality, usage and business models.
Better knowledge about future demand will lead to a better utilized grid and thereby have direct positive impacts on society.
