In the proposed project, we will develop and demonstrate a new concept for a smart solar cell window based on quantum dots (QD).
The window produces electricity in a semi-transparent QD solar cell layer while dynamically regulating the transmittance of visible and near-infrared light with a photochromic coating so that it saves energy for cooling buildings. The technology can be used as a window or facade product. The proposed technology is in demand by the construction, real estate, architectural and glass industries.
In the project, the various underlying technologies will be adapted for a combined glass product, scaled up and demonstrated as a prototype at TRL level 5.
A separate work package will address market potential and the path to commercialization where all partners will contribute. An advisory group from the glass and window industry provides advice from a needs and industry perspective.
