It is not clear whether public bidirectional charging is possible for large-scale applications. There are still many unanswered questions concerning technical systems, people’s perception and use of public bidirectional, and what value the services create.
Through unique user studies twelve vehicles in two realistic pilots are used to assess public bidirectional charging from a systems perspective. Credible user studies can be carried out, technical systems and customer benefits are validated in real settings, business models and incentives be inventoried and analysed, and policies and regulations be assessed.
Technical systems for carpool optimisation, user interaction and energy optimisation will also be developed. Large-scale Swedish system demonstrators of public bidirectional charging will be prepared by identifying and mobilising partnerships for appropriate applications for a rollout of hundreds of vehicles.
