Electric vehicles (EV) have, compared to conventional internal combustion engine propelled vehicles a shorter range.
This, in combination with a longer charging/refueling time and an underdeveloped charging infrastructure, represents a potential problem that could slow down the electrification and make potential buyers of EVs hesitant.
The U-Feel project will approach this problem by developing tools and methods to predict the true energy consumption of the EV, dependent on external factors that can be estimated.
By doing so, planning of the transport missions can be made, both from the operator and the driver’s perspective, such that uncertainties can be reduced, and risks of running out of charge are minimized efficiently. It is believed that this will increase both the utility of the vehicles and the trust of the buyers.
The project aims to develop and implement simple demonstrators and show how these could be used in a real scenario. The project includes three Ph.D. students.
