This research project will exploit the possibilities that an increase in the system voltage in the electric drive systems of heavy vehicles entails. Today, around 400 volts is used for passenger cars and around 600-800 volts for heavy vehicles. Future long-haul transports with heavy vehicles depend on the possibility of fast charging with high power to minimize battery mass and downtime while maximizing driving time and load volume.
The high power requires that a system voltage significantly higher than 1 kilovolt is used, to keep the current down, which among other things reduces the weight of the electrical conductors, which are usually made of copper and thus heavy. Two key components in the drive system, the inverter on the drive motor will be adapted and optimized for 1250 V system voltage. Experimental verification will take place.
The project takes place in collaboration between academia and leading Swedish industrial actors.
