The purpose of the project is to develop a software solution connected to a power board that can be installed on IoT Gateways which are already available on the market. The solution uses machine learning to reduce the energy consumption of these Gateways by at least 50% and enables controlling when the energy consumption occurs. The reduced energy consumption enables IoT installations to be implemented completely independently of the power grid by being powered by, for example, solar panels.
If the Gateway is connected to the power grid, the solution reduces the load on the power grid during peak hours through the reduced energy consumption and that the user can decide when the battery for the Gateway is charged. The decreased energy consumption of IoT Gateways is forecast to total up to 183 000 MWh per year on all installed Gateways by the year 2035, which in turn would lead to a decrease in CO2 emissions by between 27 450-1 098 000 tonnes of CO2.
