The project aims to validate the production of molded fibre products from a new pulp source and with a newly developed lignin-based coating with a potential customer.
A new technology called the Dendronic process, which uses an environmentally friendly solvent, is used to produce a cellulose pulp and a high-quality lignin as well as valuable by-products from sawdust and agricultural residues. The cellulose pulp will be used to produce molded fibre products while a coating for improved barrier properties of the molded fibre product will be developed from the lignin.
The aim is to produce molded fibre trays that can be used as an alternative to polypropylene (PP) packaging while reducing the content of non-bioderived components in molded fibre products.
Prototype materials will be produced and evaluated by a potential customer. A pilot production run with the customer will subsequently be carried out.
