This project intends to develop simple, environmentally friendly, and cost-efficient recycling methods of electrode materials in spent NiMH batteries. Energy-consuming melting and recasting methods, as well as complicated chemical-consuming hydrometallurgical methods used in conventional recycling materials from spent NiMH batteries will be avoided.
Reuse of spent electrode material from batteries is an important goal in the new EU battery regulation. With increased electrification of the EU zone, it is important to find efficient ways, not only to recycle materials, but to re-introduce these materials into the battery industry.
In this project, we want to develop technologies that enable a large-scale reuse of consumed material in new batteries, where reconditioned material is expected to give better performance in the new batteries. The goal will then actually be to increase the value of the material to be reused in new production.
