The project goal is to evaluate how recently developed remote analysis and machine learning models, which generate knowledge about the exact location and orientation of all PV systems in an area, can create value for Distribution System Operators and Aggregators.
Based on the exact coordinates and orientation of all PV systems, aggregated total historical PV power will be simulated and used to quantify the smoothing effect, which arise from the fact that distributed PV systems are installed with varying azimuth and tilt.
This effect, at both municipal- and low voltage grid levels, is used to assess how much grid capacity that can be made available from a planning perspective, as compared to when the Distribution System Operator must assume that all PV systems can produce their maximum capacity at the same time. It will also be used for design proposals for mechanisms that can provide local flexibility through an Aggregator.
