Flexibility in the future electricity system is assumed to be achieved through increased automation of people’s homes.
The project analyzes goal conflicts between ecological and social sustainability, arising in the gap between technical efficiency and issues connected to everyday life. This includes equality, democracy, and trust.
We use an intersectional perspective, where societal structures that risk standing in the way of a democratic future electricity network are visible.
Based on a series of field studies in people's homes, the research group, uses a design-driven norm-critical process to produce prototypes which visualize power structures arising in relations between practices and products and proposing alternative product/practice relations that challenge and expand the prevailing discourse around smart home and electricity grid.
The project collaborates with with private and civil society actors with the aim of transferring the the project's results into practical work.
