The cost of frequency regulation in Sweden has increased significantly in recent years and is expected to continue to rise.
Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) presents new and resource efficient ways to balance the electricity grid with the help of the rapidly growing electric car fleet.
However, the potential is dependent on electric car drivers to allow their batteries to be used, and there are several uncertainties regarding practical possibilities, financial profitability and risk of the battery wearing out.
In order for electric car drivers to be able and willing to contribute with frequency regulation in the electricity system with the help of V2G, the overall aim of the project is to study and quantify the practical possibilities and financial conditions of individual electric car drivers to allow their batteries to be used for frequency regulation through V2G.
In the project, driving patterns from 429 cars representative of Swedish driving measured with GPS over 1-3 months will be analysed.
