Freight distribution with smaller vehicles has shown rapid growth in dense cities worldwide. The number of people using delivery services in Europe is expected to reach 96.9 million by 2024. The major delivery companies in Europe have over 100,000 drivers each. Each petrol moped causes 1,200 kg of CO2 per year according to test measurements in autumn 2022 within Foodora in Gothenburg in collaboration with Ciklo.
The project aims to address the urgent need to replace petrol delivery vehicles with electric vehicles in order to achieve zero carbon dioxide emissions and local pollution with high particulate levels. The project will also evaluate the economic relevance of the concept of electric vehicles in category L with replaceable batteries in a standardized and open ecosystem in the EU and UK.
The project will establish a pilot in Stockholm with electric mopeds. What is unique is that several professional distribution fleets share an open infrastructure for quick battery replacement
