Efficient manufacturing and recycling processes for lithium-ion batteries will be key to ensure a sustainable transition to electromobility and to decrease the dependence on imports of critical raw materials.
In this context, this project´s goal is to demonstrate a resource and energy-efficient method to integrate battery recycling and synthesis of cathode active material precursor on a pilot scale.
For this, innovative battery recycling technologies will be validated on a pilot scale, producing highly pure solutions that will directly feed the precursor synthesis.
This approach goes beyond state of art alternatives, closing the loop for battery recycling and production, and being more energy, cost, and resource efficient.
Integrating recycling and synthesis of precursors will also contribute to fulfil the new EU battery regulation, which will require the use of recovered materials in batteries, with benefits to the EV market and increased competitiveness of Sweden in the sector.
