Industrialization and validation of a novel surface treatment for minimized friction and wear

Almost 25% of all energy produced is wasted due to friction and wear. Tribonex has developed a new method, Triboconditioning® CG (TCG), which combines both mechanical and chemical surface treatment in one single process step and has been shown to reduce start friction and wear compared to polishing. TCG is a highly flexible process that uses standard mass finishing machines for the treatment, enabling cost-effective treatment of many different types of components in terms of size, shape and volume.

The customer has evaluated the surface treatment for hydraulic motors and the project now focuses on scaling up and verifying the process for introduction into series production. The developed process will also be applied on a number of other applications such as transmission gears, rock drills, industrial machines and tools, which means that the method can lead to great contribution to improved global energy efficiency.
