A concept has been developed for a large-scale flywheel-based energy storage system with the working name: the Kairos concept.
The common denominator of most modern flywheel-based energy storage systems has been to reach as high a rotation speed as possible. The Kairos concept instead focuses on achieving the lowest possible cost per stored kWh. Therefore other, cheaper, materials have been identified.
However, these materials limit the possible rotational speed considerably. The innovations behind the Kairos concept focus on minimizing system cost and energy losses linked to the higher weight, larger volume and lower speed of the Kairos koncept.
The project aims to reinforce these technical analysis results and also broaden the analysis with a deeper market research analysis.
