Grant Description

At CUBO our goal is to develop new methods for data storage in DNA and significantly decrease the global use of electricity, used to maintain data.

Today data centers utilize ~3% of the world’s energy, and this will continue to increase as our society is continuously generating increasing amounts of data.

In addition, our society is experiencing an energy crisis, and as we continue to increase the gas, oil and electricity demands, we are reaching the physical limitations of our natural resources. We must generate immediate solutions to utilize our resources efficiently. To address this challenge CUBO stores data in DNA.

DNA has incredible information density and fidelity. However today DNA data storage is not possible to scale due to the high prices for DNA synthesis.

We are developing an entirely new method to synthesize DNA for data storage that 1) has the potential to radically reduce the carbon footprint of data storage and 2) the potential of large scale low cost data storage.
