Management of Sustainability Data in SMEs: Opportunities and Challenges (a Feasibility Study)

More manufacturing companies are facing demands to report sustainability data, a trend driven by regulatory requirements and demands from larger corporations on their suppliers. Despite progress, challenges persist regarding systematic approaches, transparency, and efficiency, often linked to inadequate system support. We are seeking funding for a feasibility study that explores how small and medium-sized enterprises can enhance the collection and reporting of sustainability data.

The project employs a step-by-step method to comprehend and improve the handling of sustainability data. Initially, insights are gathered from early adopters, followed by an analysis of production flows to identify data requirements and collection methods. Ultimately, gaps and bottlenecks impeding efficient reporting are identified.

The project will yield two outcomes: 1) a report with recommendations and best practices to guide SMEs; 2) an action plan for a future industrial research project.
