Residents' participation is crucial for municipalities' climate adaptation. It can promote deliberative democracy, tailor solutions to local contexts, generate public support, encourage behavioral change, foster local innovation and strengthen communities. By actively involving residents, municipalities can better navigate the complexities of climate change and build resilient, sustainable communities.
Such results can be achieved if the municipality is transparent and actively feeds back the meaning of stakeholder analyses, interpretations of climate advice and different perspectives obtained from deliberative structures.
The pilot study Participation in climate change (DEKO) intends to mobilize and activate methods, target groups and recipients in Malmö. It wants to lay the foundation for the interaction between (i) information, knowledge and expertise exchange and (ii) acknowledgment or feedback of how the exchange is interpreted and shapes measures for climate change.
