Ports account for ~30% of CO2 emissions in the shipping industry.
While regulators are pushing for industry electrification, charging infrastructure is lagging and creates major barriers for electrification.
Elonroad’s electric road system can charge any heavy vehicle in motion and enables much smaller batteries which has substantial economic benefits for the electrification of the industry.
As the EV ecosystem is complex with many players and interfaces, it is critical to start collaborating from a system perspective with both manufacturers of the vehicles and the charging infrastructure. The project is a collaboration between the Elonroad (main applicant), Cargotec Kalmar and Lund University.
The purpose of the project is to design, build and perform technical feasibility studies of the electrical charging system of material handling vehicles. The project shall also test the system on a physical electrical road together with Kalmar’s electrical vehicles.
