How resilient is the intermodal passenger transport system being promoted in cities and regions?
The transport sector is in a transition phase where technological developments combined with increased sustainability demands have resulted in new initiatives to promote the transition from car travel to walking, cycling and public transport. These journeys usually combine different modes of transport in one trip, making them intermodal.
Intermodality can potentially increase the resilience of transport by diversifying transport options, but the system also generates various risks and vulnerabilities which affect groups differently.
The project contributes with a (i) mapping of risks and opportunities in intermodal travel at local and regional level, (ii) an analysis of the distribution of responsibilities, trade-offs and collaboration between different actors, (iii) knowledge of necessary measures to ensure that the transition to an intermodal passenger transport system is resilient.
