The project evaluates results of a previous Swedish Energy Agency project.
The purpose was to propose improved lighting in examination rooms before the design of a new eye hospital through new lighting technology, daylight access and at the same time high energy savings. The goal is to evaluate effectiveness of the energy-saving measures (estimated at up to 30%).
It is analyzed whether new working methods have contributed to lower energy consumption (ca 50%) through increased use of daylight and pre-programmed lighting options for various stages of the eye examinations.
Furthermore, it is analyzed whether the measures contributed to a better visual ergonomics and to reduced problems (impaired well-being, increased fatigue, sleep problems), where women had more such problems than men. The problems were considered due to working in the dark and lack of daylight.
Improved and more energy-efficient lighting that reduces disorders is an important incentive for investments in energy savings.
