This project aims to deliver a smart, holistic renovation strategy for existing buildings with ground source heat pumps considering a range of prosumer technologies.
The problem is defined in terms of energy efficiency and peak power limitations in the increasingly electrified energy system.
We take a user-centric approach by considering the diverse needs and preferences of decision makers and qualify potential solutions through the lens of tradeoffs between technical, economic, environmental, and social factors.
A range of renovation alternatives are considered, including capacity expansion, novel thermal storage techniques, solar energy regeneration, and battery storage.
Several distinct solutions are expected to be found that excel in different performance categories, informing the discussion of tradeoffs between diverse goals and leading to novel conclusions about the development of the existing building stock towards 2050 energy goals.
