Departuring from the interest in prepping, the project examines how existing driving forces can accelerate the transition to resource-efficient housing. Due to the pandemic and war, we have seen disruptions in global supply systems of electricity, water and food in Sweden.
Authorities emphasize that individuals should manage for a week in the event of a crisis, but how does existing buildings support this? Prepping culture's crisis scenarios are based on breakdowns of infrastructure and develops strategies that ensure local access to vital resources. The project explores these local solutions as a way of reducing energy-consuming resource flows.
An interdisciplinary group of researchers and practitioners scales up prepper strategies and housing is turned into a node for local resilience. The research results in drawings and prototypes for practical application as well as policy changes that promote resource-efficient local resilience in housing developments.
