The project aims to further develop advanced scenario modeling of cities' future complex energy needs by addressing several key challenges in the transition to a renewable energy system. Challenges include modeling increased volatility and intermittency in renewable energy production and contributions of energy storage solutions to stabilize the energy system, as well as the consequences of increased electricity and power demands due to the electrification of various sectors, such as transportation and industry.
Through the advancement of advanced scenario modeling to enable in-depth analysis of these challenges, cities will gain a significantly more detailed overview of their future complex energy needs over time. The goal is to provide advanced decision support for policymakers to facilitate well-informed decisions regarding the significant investments that cities face in the energy sector and promote the transition to renewable energy systems in cities.
